Tanjobutsu (Buddha at birth) and hanamido (altar of flowers)
Tanjobutsu is a statue showing the Buddha's birth scene. In Japan, his birthday is called “Hana-Matsuri” (Flower Festival), and it is customary to pour sweet tea over the statue. The altar is surrounded by the seven treasures of Buddhism (gold, silver, lapis lazuli, crystal, giant clam, red pearl, and agate). This statue is made of pine wood and is brightly colored.
