Sho-Kannon statue by Matsuhisa Sohrin

Called “Kannon” in Japanese, Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara is the bodhisattva of compassion, who has a variety of avatars and is variably depicted. This figure called “Sho-Kannon” (the sacred or real bodhisattva) is believed to be the original figure of the bodhisattva. Made of Japanese cypress, this statue was carved by the Kyoto-based famous Buddhist sculptor Matsuhisa Sohrin.
