We Create New Tradition Out of Heritage

“Kyo-butsugu” are Kyoto-made Buddhist ritual objects, including altars and decorations, used in Buddhist rituals and ceremonies at Buddhist temples.

Kyoto, a city dotted with large numbers of Buddhist temples, is not only the center of Japanese Buddhism but also home to numerous artisans engaged in the manufacture of Kyoto-made Buddhist ritual objects that have an inherent high value as art.

WHO WE ARE

We produce Buddhist ritual objects in Kyoto

Kyo-butsugu Yoninkai is a consortium of four wholesalers in Kyoto, Japan, dealing in Buddhist ritual objects. It was established in 1980 with a view to sharing the beauty and value of these objects more broadly with the public. Since that time, our members have continued to create authentic Kyo-butusgu Buddhist ritual objects and share these magnificent items.

OUR PRODUCTS

Our authentic Buddhist objects inspire a sacred atmosphere

We at Kyo-butsugu Yoninkai are all about authenticity. Our time-tested Buddhist objects, rooted in history, are meticulously crafted not only for their external appearance but also for what’s inside—and for a host of fine details. The difference between our products and others becomes apparent only after many decades. Yet Buddhist objects are meant to be used and revered over decades and centuries. Our products, created with unsurpassed technique, are meant to be enjoyed for lifetimes.

ART PROJECT

We create new ways to appreciate Buddhist art

Buddhist ritual objects are imbued with practicality, yet at the same time also feature multiple artistic elements. They are also made to touch people’s hearts. In recent years, we have taken up a new challenge: creating art pieces based in the know-how of Buddhist art and object manufacture to match modern living spaces.
